Formerly, marriages were done at home. Each guest offered a basket of ingredients to help with the wedding ceremony. Made from flour, eggs and sugar, the finely chopped cake was usually offered by the bride and groom to the guests, one week before the wedding, as a way of repaying the contribution that each gave. Today, it is rare to have such marriages, but the tradition of offering this cake continues to be maintained in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova.
